Yin Yoga is a more passive form of  yoga practice that utilizes slow stretch. The postures are held for several minutes, sometimes for 10 minutes, or even longer. The muscles (=yang tissue) stay mostly relaxed so that the connective (=yin) tissue of the body can be targeted. A static, elongating “stress” on the ligaments (tissue around the joints) and other connective tissue not only makes it grow thicker and longer, it also opens the flow of energy through the energy pathways (called meridians or nadis). In these two workshops you will learn the history, the principles, the healing aspects of Yin Yoga.

Petrina Plecko was first introduced to yoga at the age of 16 in her native Slovenia. Ever since she’s been studying the wisdom traditions, primarily yoga, eastern & western healing arts (shiatsu, acupuncture, culinary therapy) and meditation (vipassana & shambhala). Over the last 15+ years she has assisted hundreds of people of all walks of life to regain their balance of body-mind-spirit as a full time yoga teacher and therapist. Her teachings have roots in Krishnamacharya lineage of yoga–she has spent thousands of hours studying and practicing Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Iyengar Yoga. As a former dancer she loves Vinyasa style simply because it allows a lot of creativity and Yin, Therapeutic & Restorative Yoga for their deep healing powers. Known for her precise teaching style, her passionate presentation and her sense of humor, Petrina’s classes are challenging or deeply relaxing, fun, inspiring and with her rich vocabulary of healing tools dedicated to helping people enjoy more vibrant and conscious living.

Nancy Gilgoff

Primary Series Adjustment Clinic

July 10-14, 2013

$650 @ Bristol Yoga

Hone your ability to see, feel, touch and verbalize in your teaching. In this workshop you will begin to learn the principles of hands-on adjusting, of working therapeutically, and of sensing energy movement and blockage in the body. The primary series of the Ashtanga Yoga system will serve as the basis for asana work.

This is a unique opportunity to study with Nancy. The workshop is open to yoga teachers or those that know the Primary Series and have had a daily practice for at least 2 years. In the morning, there will be a Mysore practice from 8-10am and an adjustment clinic from 1-4pm.

Nancy Gilgoff began practicing Ashtanga Yoga over thirty years ago with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore, India. As result of their long and close association, Nancy is able to teach with a style and touch that comes directly from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. When Nancy asked Jois how she should teach, he told her to “teach the way I taught you” advice which she took to heart and continues to follow today. Nancy’s studies, over the years, have also led her to other teachers, including Baba Hari Dass and, for asana, instructors of Iyengar. In addition, she has and continues to pursue the dharma teachings of the Dalai Lama. Nancy spends much of her time touring the United States, Europe, and Asia, teaching with a view to fostering loving-kindness and to sharing her love and experience of yoga.
